He left front line education in 2007 and has since written three best-selling books; the first being Creating Tomorrow’s Schools Today (Bloomsbury), now in its second edition. It is widely regarded as one of the most seminal books ever written about the future of education and has been published around the world; translated into a multitude of languages including Chinese, Korean and Spanish. His other books, both explorations of human potential, leadership and success: Change (Penguin) and Simple Thinking (Wiley) take his learning and experience on to explore the world beyond schooling, through the eyes of an educator. Both have received critical and public success; both achieving global best seller status.
As well as advising some of the world’s most significant organizations across a diverse range of fields including tech, business, finance, sport and music; Richard’s clients include; Microsoft, Google, Visa, Capital Records and UK Sport, he has never been far from education. He is still a school board member in the UK and also the member of Court at The University of Derby who awarded him an honorary Doctorate in 2015 for his services to Education.
Richard is currently working on his fourth book, which will bring him home, back to his passion; education. Titled; I Wish I Knew Then… Richard is exploring everything he has encountered since leaving his Principal’s position and how it could impact on the education system moving forward. It is this uniqueness of insight which has been engaging, entertaining and stimulating education audiences around the world for over a decade. He brings so much real experience to his work; his authenticity and insights are unique, fresh and hugely inspirational. His speeches can be seen on TED and on various online channels around the world.
